Accepting Awards

After you have been notified by the scholarship office about your scholarship award, please be sure to complete the following steps:

  1. Return the scholarship acceptance award form by designated date. You will receive this form in your scholarship award notification with listed deadline.
  2. Complete the FAFSA.

*All scholarships are awarded on a first come, first serve basis and are limited to the availability of funds; should requirements not be met, scholarships may be forfeited and given to another Islander.

How to accept your  scholarship award(s) 
To review and accept and/or decline your awards, you must:

  1. Login to S.A.I.L.
  2. From the main menu, select the Financial Aid tab.
  3. Click the Award link.
  4. Click the Award for Aid Year link.
  5. From the drop-down menu, select the award year you would like to view and click Submit.
  6. Please review each information tab carefully for details regarding your awards.
  7. Before you can accept your awards, you must first accept the Terms and Conditions (noted on the Terms and Conditions tab) by clicking the check box shown at the bottom of the page.
  8. Click on the Accept Award Offer tab.
  9. Scholarship Thank you letter

From this tab, you can review the award(s) being offered to you.

  • To accept all award amounts being offered to you, click the Accept Full Amount of All Awards button.
  • If you would like to accept certain awards while declining others, select Accept or Decline from the adjoining drop-down menus and click Submit.
  • To accept a partial amount of an award, enter the amount you would like to accept in the Accept Partial Amount field. Then, select Accept from the adjoining drop-down menu and click Submit.
  • If you do not wish to not make a decision at that time, you may select Decide Later from the drop-down menu. Remember - you have a two-week time frame to either accept/decline your award offer.


Scholarship Photo Requirements – please read thoroughly


  • Photo submitted must be a “taken” photo. Enlisting the help of someone to take a photo of you is required as selfies will not be accepted
  • Must be headshot (taken from the shoulders up) and professional in style and content. Please do not wear any headwear to include headphones, earphones, hats, bandanas, sunglasses, etc.
  • Photo should have a solid or non-distracting background
  • Must be a jpeg file
  • Photo submitted must be of high-quality, full color. Please be weary of blurry or pixelated shots.
  • Submitted photo must not contain any individuals except for the scholarship applicant (with the exception of the scholarship applicant’s children).
  • Please no cropped group photos
  • Photo submitted should not have any unnatural filters (please no Snapchat or other app filters)
  • Photo submitted should not be a photo of a printed picture


Below is great example of a thank you photo for a scholarship donor.


   This student read the requirements above very carefully. She found a friend to take a photo and staged herself in front of a non-distracting background. She removed her sunglasses and hat and made sure to get a clear, non-blurry photo. She also made sure to stay away from any filters that would alter her image. Considering the outlined criteria for photos, ensures that you are the focus for scholarship donors and is an encouraging reminder of their investment in your education.
